Bowen Therapy is a pressure-point healing method that targets the soft connective tissue in the body. It is a neuro-muscular-skeletal healthcare regime. Practitioners are trained to use rolling moves that are applied at different levels of pressure, directions and speeds, targeting the soft connective tissue. In simple terms, it is a therapeutic technique that clears muscular, postural and structural imbalances, redressing neural and mechanical dysfunction.
The technique targets “frozen” areas and resets nerve endings and receptors that control our balance, movement and
muscle tension. It initiates the self-healing process with movements that communicate with brain signals. This, in turn, encourages the body to relax and relieve itself of emotional baggage that causes stress and tension. It also restores posture to your body’s alignment “blueprint”. Apart from back and neck pain and migraine headaches, the Bowen Therapy treats joints, the digestive and respiratory systems. In fact, it can also assist with fertility issues.
As Bowen therapy practitioners explain, this technique is about the body doing all the work. The therapist performs the pressure point healing which triggers body signals to start the self-healing process. Just like with any pressure point healing, you will be asked to lie down on a bed. Bowen therapy practitioners will work on you for between 45 minutes to an hour. Each set of rolling moves is followed by a short break during which time the body is given an opportunity to integrate the effects of the pressure point healing. Depending on your ailment, most clients need at least five sessions. This will improve their posture, refresh their complexions, release tension and relieve headaches.
